Virtual production — shooting actors or products in front of a large LED wall showing a real-time rendered background instead of a physical location — has moved from blockbuster film sets into advertising. Whether it's worth it for a mid-size brand comes down almost entirely to how often you'd actually use it.
Where it genuinely pays for itself
Automotive and travel brands that would otherwise fly a crew to multiple exotic locations save real money and time by generating those backgrounds instead — one studio day can replace what would have been a multi-country shoot. Anything requiring an impossible or fictional setting also benefits, since there's no physical alternative to compare the cost against.
Where it usually doesn't
A single brand film or a handful of shoots a year rarely justifies the daily studio and technical crew rate — a real location shoot, even with travel, is often cheaper at that frequency. And for anything where authenticity of place matters to the story (a real factory, a real farm, a real neighbourhood), the wall reads as artificial no matter how good the render.
The practical middle ground
Green-screen compositing with a strong plate shot on location gets most of the flexibility of an LED wall at a fraction of the cost, for brands doing one or two productions a year. We'd only recommend the full LED-wall setup once a brand's production volume genuinely supports it.
